Plan your first deployment

A clear checklist for taking a small static website from your computer to a hosting service.

Prepare your website

A static website consists of files such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and images. Start by making sure its homepage is named index.html and that links point to the correct files.

my-website/
  index.html
  assets/
    styles.css
    script.js
  about/
    index.html

Open the site locally and check every page. Use relative links if the site needs to work under different hosting paths.

Choose a hosting destination

Pick a hosting service that supports static files. Before creating resources, review its current pricing and how to remove the deployment. The exact publishing steps depend on your provider.

  1. Create a site or static hosting project.
  2. Upload your website files or connect its source repository.
  3. Set the published folder to the directory containing your homepage.
  4. Use the generated preview address to inspect the result.

Check the published result

Visit the homepage, open a section, then follow a link to a nested detail page. Reload that detail page directly to confirm the server can find it.

  • Check the site on a narrow screen.
  • Verify images, styles, and scripts load.
  • Confirm HTTPS is enabled.
  • Keep account credentials and private files out of the upload.
A small first milestone

A working preview URL is enough for your first deployment. You can connect a custom domain later.
